Social Justice (Tzedeq Hevrati)
Being religious is not just about praying, observing Shabbat, and observing kashrut; it’s also about Tzedeq Hevrati (Social Justice) and helping those in need.
In addition to helping our own members by providing meals when a new child arrives or during shiva or when someone is ill, we also believe in reaching out and helping those in our greater community. During the Second Lebanon War, Mayanot donated food and clothing to refugees from the North who were forced to flee their homes because of the constant shelling of Katyusha rockets. We also raised money to give the refugees a Yom Keif (fun day) out of the dorms where they were staying. The past few months we have been involved in collecting clothing for refugees from Darfur who arrived in Israel and have participated in other various food and clothing drives.
